Vakans Lespwa Project — helping a displaced child stay in school

With the Vakans Lespwa project, ICCI wants to support displaced children, give them back hope and help them return to school with dignity.

The problem

Gang violence in Haiti does not only destroy neighborhoods. It upends entire lives: it forces families to flee, to leave behind their home, their school, their neighbors and their friends.

In this crisis, children are among the first victims. Many find themselves displaced, weakened, disoriented, silently carrying the weight of uncertainty, fear and the feeling of being forgotten.

A displaced child does not only need shelter or a meal. They need to feel seen, welcomed, heard and valued — and to be able to keep believing in their future.

ICCI's response

Through the Vakans Lespwa project, ICCI wants to support displaced and vulnerable children by offering them a space of welcome, listening, guidance, joy and hope.

The project aims to help them regain confidence, take part in socio-educational and cultural activities, be valued for their talents, and prepare their return to school in better conditions.
